Description

The first lookout on this site was a tower made of timbers built in 1912. The current 47' Aermotor model LS-40 tower was erected in 1919 by the New York State Conservation Commission, now the NYS-DEC. The tower stood watch over the watershed of the Stillwater Reservoir of the Beaver River in northern Herkimer County and along a 25 mile stretch of the New York Central Railroad's Adirondack division. The fire tower also provided observation protection over the eastern forest lands owned by the Fisher Forestry and Reality Company.
