Built about 1925, Demond Hill Fire Tower sits atop the highest hill near the lumbering town of Raco, Michigan.
During the Great Depression, the tower worked in conjunction with the Civilian Conservation Corps camp in Raco to handle fire suppression. By 1942, when Raco was the only camp left in the district, its fire protection area covered 151,140 acres.
