Description

Built by the U.S. Forest Service in 1939, McCart Lookout was completely restored in 1991-92 by the Sula Ranger District of the Bitterroot National Forest in Montana. The structure is an L-4, 14'x14' live-in cab with catwalk on a low wooden tower. It was used for fire detection until 1984 when it was replaced by TeePee Lookout to the north. Located on the edge of the Anaconda Pintler Wilderness and reached only by trail, McCart Lookout was placed in the cabin rental program in 1993 and has proven to be very popular with overnight hikers.
