Lookout Details
Description
There are a few hip roof cupola lookouts remaining, and even fewer gable roof models (although they once were common in Montana and northern Idaho). Robinson Mountain Lookout is one of them. Built in 1929, the 12' x 14' shake and frame cabin was abandoned in 1948 but survived and was restored in 1983 as a Kootenai National Forest rental. A high elevation site and located a few miles south of the Canadian border, the lookout was difficult to reach and often fogged in.
