Description

Smiling forlornly on a relatively low mountain point overlooking a fire-prone railroad, Tony Peak Lookout was approaching collapse until the Forest Fire Lookout Association arrived in Libby, Montana for its 1999 western summer meeting. A visit to the site led not only to an immediate restoration effort by the FFLA to prevent further deterioration, but also to the establishment of the Tony Peak Award by the National Forestry Association in recognition of sensitive and appropriate siting of the electronic facilities in the vicinity of historic structures. It is one of 8 hip roof L-4s on the Kootenai National Forest.
