St. Mary Lookout is the eighth tower to be listed in Montana and the first by the U.S. Forest Service. The Bitterroot National Forest structure was originally an L-4 on a 40' tower built in 1931, but it blew down in 1951. The current structure (1953 vintage) is a 14'x14' wooden cab with catwalk atop a 10' natural stone base.
