Description

The first NHLR listing in New Mexico is one of the most interesting lookouts in the Southwestern Region. Located on the Smokey Bear Ranger District of the Lincoln National Forest, Monjeau Lookout was completed by the CCC in 1940. The 7’x7’ metal cab is built into a 14’ x 14’ native stone tower that houses the living quarters. Still in active use, the lookout is a popular destination with forest visitors. It is also listed on the National Register of Historic Sites.
