Description

A 30’ Aermotor tower with 14’x14’ wooden cab and steel mesh catwalk, Ruidoso Lookout was erected in 1940 by the U.S. Forest Service. It is also located on the Smokey Bear Ranger District of the Lincoln National Forest and is listed on the National Register of Historic Sites. In the past 56 years the Town of Ruidoso has expanded to nearly surround the tower, which is now staffed by a town employee for the detection of urban/suburban fires.
