Description
A 22-foot steel tower was built on the summit in 1917. In 1933, a 20-foot extension was added to allow a sight line over the trees. The Snowy Mountain fire tower was in operation until 1971. The fire tower was restored in 2001 by a group of DEC staff, Student Conservation Corp, and local citizens with support from the NYS Police helicopter to deliver materials.
