Although located within the Malheur National Forest, Aldrich Butte Lookout was built and is staffed by the Oregon Dept. of Forestry. It is a standard three story ODF flatroof design with 14’x14’ cab and catwalk. First used as a lookout site in 1934, the cabin was replaced in 1959 and burned by vandals the same year. The present lookout was constructed in 1960 to the same standard. In active service, its coverage includes state, BLM, and private land.
