Description
SiSi Butte Lookout has long been an important detection point in the Oregon Cascades on the southern end of the Mt. Hood National Forest. In 1940 a L-4 with catwalk was built on a 41' timber tower. It was soon staffed year round as part of the Aircraft Warning Service in World War II. That structure was removed (with the historic parts salvaged) in 1977, replaced with a new generation fire tower. The octagonal cab with a catwalk/deck sits atop a 40' laminated wood tower. It is staffed each summer.
