Description

Originally constructed by the Vermont Division of Forestry, and now maintained by the Division of State Parks, Elmore Mountain Fire Tower is a well-recognized local landmark. Following the disastrous New England hurricane in 1938, a federal forestry task force was established to work with the states in rehabilitating the forests of the region. One of their accomplishments was completed the following year when the tower, residence cabin and an underground phone line were established. The lookout remained active until 1974.
