Description

Tunk Mountain Lookout was built by the U.S. Forest Service on the Okanogan National Forest is 1933. It was an L-4 cab on a 40’ pole tower. In the 1950’s the Washington Dept. of Natural Resources took over the tower and in 1966 replaced it was the current 40’ timber tower with a 14’x14’ WDNR cab with cat walk. Declared surplus in the 1990s, it was purchased by W.R. Morrison and kept on site with a special use permit. In 2004 the lookout was purchased by American Resources and was again staffed for a month in 2005 during reconstruction of nearby Bonaparte Lookout.
