Only three fire lookouts remain on the Big Horn National Forest in north central Wyoming, but all of them are of a classic Rocky Mountain design. High Park Lookout (US#24, WY#1) on the south end was one of the early listings on the NHLR in 1991. Sheep Mountain Lookout in the mid-zone is a R-2, L-4 with catwalk on a stone foundation. Although plans for its construction were approved in 1941, the lookout was not completed until 1950. The lookout is at an elevation of 9600 feet -- well above timberline.
