Description
The Ossipee Hill Fire Tower becomes the third lookout in York County to win recognition on the NHLR, joining previous listings Mt. Hope and Mt. Agamenticus. All three are owned and maintained by the Maine Forest Service, and each is staffed by volunteers from the town fire departments. The original tower on Ossipee Hill fell victim to the disastrous Maine forest fires of 1947. The present 30’ treated wood tower with a 13’ x 13’ shingled wood cab was constructed in 1948.
