Description

The newest fire lookout cab in New Hampshire, Pack Monadnock, was constructed in 2004 and placed in service in 2005. It replaces Hyland Hill fire tower which is still maintained. The 41' International Derrick tower with 7'x7' metal cab was constructed in 1939. The small cab was replaced in 1940 with a wooden 10'x10' cab which was burned by a lightning strike in 1960 and repaired.

Comments: This tower is looking great. The observation deck can be a bit cramped with all the hikers, but otherwise it is fine. The foundation for what might have been the watchman's cabin can be found next to the tower, under part of the air quality building.
