Description

The L-4 14’x14’ house with catwalk on Gold Butte was constructed in the Willamette National Forest in 1934 by the CCC. Eight years later a cabin was built several hundred feet north of the lookout station and staffed year-around as part of the Aircraft Warning Service in World War II. The cabin and garage are gone, but the lookout -- which was last staffed in the late 1960s -- was saved by a hiking group. The Pacific Crest Trust Fund has raised money and provided volunteers to restore the structure which is still used in periods of high fire danger.
