Description

Located in the Willamette National Forest in Oregon’s central Cascade Mountains, Indian Ridge has been the site of a lookout since 1918. It is well known as the location of a classic 29’ “cathedral style” structure which remained in service until 1958 and regrettably was not maintained. No examples remain. The present 15’x 15’ R-6 flattop with catwalk on a 20’ wooden tower was built in 1957 and remained in service until 1973. It has been restored and is now available in the cabin rental system and is occasionally used for detection on an emergency basis. Scroll down to view photos of older cathedral-style structures.
